Angela Cheung, MD, PhD, FRCPC
Dr. Angela M. Cheung is the Founding Director of University Health Network Osteoporosis Program, the Founding Director of Centre of Excellence in Skeletal Health Assessment (CESHA), a Senior Scientist at Toronto General Research Institute, and Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. She obtained her medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1988, and her PhD from Harvard University in 1997. She has been in clinical practice for almost 30 years, and specializes in osteoporosis and postmenopausal health. She is the past chair for Osteoporosis Canada Scientific Advisory Council, and an elected member of the International Osteoporosis Foundation Council of Scientific Advisors. Her research interests have been quite broad. She has published over 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals including NEJM, JAMA, Annals of Internal Medicine and Lancet. She has received many honors and awards throughout her medical career for her excellence in clinical work, research and education, including UHN Department of Medicine Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching, the University of Toronto IHPME Eudenie Stuart Award for best mentorship, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Health Services Research New Investigator Award, the Ontario Premier’s Research Excellence Award, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research mid-career and senior scientist awards, the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine Dr. David Sackett Senior Investigator Award, the Osteoporosis Canada Lindy Fraser Memorial Award, and the Chinese Canadian Legend Award. She is currently holding a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Musculoskeletal and Postmenopausal Health.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:
- Differentiate between abnormalities in the spectrum of AFF versus those that are not
- Implement ISCD guidelines on detection of AFF in their clinical practice
- At the conclusion of this presentation the attendee will be able to describe our current understanding of AFFs, especially as it relates to the management of these unusual fractures
MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION
Successful completion of this CME activity enables the participant to earn up to 1 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity.
