Karl Nadolsky, DO, FACE
Dr. Karl Nadolsky, DO FACE, is a clinical endocrinologist for Spectrum Health Medical Group in Grand Rapids, MI and assistant clinical professor of medicine for Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Holds board certification in Internal Medicine, Diabetes Endocrinology & Metabolism, and Obesity Medicine. Currently serving as chair of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists’ Obesity Disease State Network. Following residency, Dr. Nadolsky practiced for two years as a general internist and implemented a comprehensive obesity program at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth while earning certification from the American Board of Obesity Medicine in 2012 Fellowship training in endocrinology was at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), Bethesda, MD earning board certification in 2015. Following fellowship, he developed and directed the Diabetes, Obesity & Metabolic Institute, was faculty for the endocrinology fellowship program and assistant professor of medicine for Uniformed Services University.
Elena A. Christofides, MD, FACE
Dr Elena A Christofides earned her undergraduate degree from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and her medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine. She next undertook a residency at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, followed by an endocrinology and metabolism fellowship at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr Christofides is dual board-certified in internal medicine and in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism. She is currently the Chair of the Nutrition and Obesity Resource Center at the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. Dr Christofides is one of the EndocrineWeb Editorial Board of Directors and a reviewer/editor for several publications in the areas of endocrinology and reproductive health. Heavily involved in clinical research during the course of her career, she has been principal investigator on a number of endocrinology-related drug trials and global lead principal investigator for the Gan & Lee insulin biosimilar clinical trials. Dr Christofides has co-authored peer reviewed articles, book chapters and abstracts that have been presented at some of the most prestigious national meetings. Her patient education video series on nutrition, Shop With The Doc, have won a Silver Medal, the highest honor for a non-commercial entity, in the prestigious Telly Awards for 2019.
Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:
- Identify the variety of non-nutritive sweeteners used in "diet" beverages and other foods.
- Differentiate the data between observational and interventional trials of non-nutritive sweeteners in regards to obesity.
- Consider the pros and cons of non-nutritive sweeteners in dietary prescription for patients with obesity.
MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION
Successful completion of this CME activity enables the participant to earn up to 1.25 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC points.
