Frédéric Triponez, MD 

Frédéric Triponez finished his medical school in Geneva in 1996. He completed his residency in general surgery in Geneva and then spent one year in Lille, France, and one year in San Francisco. When returning in Geneva in 2005, he developed the endocrine surgery unit, making it the biggest center for thyroid and parathyroid surgery in Switzerland. He also specialized in thoracic surgery and spent two years in Paris. He was appointed head of the department of Thoracic and Endocrine Surgery at the University Hospitals of Geneva in December 2013 and full professor of surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of Geneva. Since 2018, he is also chairman of the department of surgery. His current areas of research relate to the development of fluorescent techniques to preserve the parathyroid function during thyroid and parathyroid surgery, aiming at decreasing the rate of post-thyroidectomy hypoparathyroidism. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:

• Discuss the basics of fluorescence (auto-fluorescence and fluorescence angiography with Indocyanin Green).
• Describe the latest developments of fluorescent techniques to help detect and preserve the parathyroid glands.
• Discuss when and how to use fluorescent techniques to make thyroid and parathyroid surgery safer.

MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION

Successful completion of this CME activity enables the participant to earn up to 0.75 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC points. 

Your participation information will be shared with the ACCME, which will in turn report your points to ABIM. Successful completion of a course examination is required to earn ABIM MOC points.
