Included in the A Comprehensive Look at the Disease of Obesity Bundle
The economic impact of obesity and its complications is enormous, accounting for one-fifth of $923 billion in healthcare expenditures in the United States. In a 2012 analysis, annual increases in Medicare spending for obese patients were more than twice that for normal-weight patients; once the analysis was adjusted for obesity-related chronic conditions, the difference in expenditures was no longer statistically significant. Despite these findings, many clinicians fail to diagnose and manage obesity as the serious disease it is. This course provides details establishing that obesity is a disease and helps you incorporate obesity screening in your daily practice. The economic impact of obesity and its complications is enormous, accounting for one-fifth of $923 billion in healthcare expenditures in the United States.
